Known as Gomanta or Gopakapattanam in the times of yore, Goa, is said to have had the earliest human settlements in India, with rock art engravings found from the area dating from the Upper Paleolithic period. It is bounded by the Arabian Sea on its western coast, the state of Maharashtra to its North, and the state of Karnataka to its south and east, and is the smallest state in India in terms of area.

Known for its beaches, and flora and fauna, it is also a favoured international destination, attracting tourists from all over the world. Goa with its beaches and music is also considered as one of the best honeymoon destinations in India. Though small it may be, the state has been voted one of the best to live in, with one of the best standards of living and infrastructure facilities, available throughout the country.

Goa is also known for its vibrant music scene. Its Music festivals have artists coming from around the world to play here every year. It is also the birthplace of Goa Trance, a genre of electronic music, and the sub cultures that stemmed from it. If lazing out in the beaches is on your mind, Goa is here.

Goa is an experience in itself. To fully indulge in the experience, you should take part in the following activities.

Go on a Cholta Cholta tour of Panjim, the capital of Goa. Cholta Cholta, which literally translates to “Whilst walking” shows you every nook and cranny of Panjim.

Water Sports: Surfing, catamaran sailing, jet Goa caters all these adventure lovers.

Snorkeling: Go Underwater among the corals at Grande island at Goa. Dolphin spotting can also be done here.  

Casinos: If flirting with lady luck if your thing, then head straight to Goa’s casinos for games of chance.  Anchored on the Mandovi River are a number of premier floating casinos, offering games of poker, slots and roulette.

Getting Around

You can avail buses, taxis, “pilot” or moto cycle taxis to navigate through the city. Auto rickshaws and ferry are also popular intra city travel options.

Dolphin spotting: Goa is famous for Dolphin spotting expeditions it undertakes along the coast and in the river Mandovi.

Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary : The largest wildlife sanctuary in Goa, situated in Molem, home to slacking Pythons, spotted deers, leopards, and elephants, this is the closest your little one can get to nature.

Beaches: Goa is famous for them. Take your child for a day out to one of the less crowded beaches at Morjim, Arambol, or Ashvem, building sandcastles, and frolicking in the waves.



The official language is Konkani, but Marathi is also in wide use and people understand a variety of languages including English and Hindi.

Goa has a very vibrant nightlife. With an international crowd coming to the state every year; there are many pubs and nightclubs in Goa, aimed at providing the best experience.

Infantaria café: This café is famous for its Breakfast, and for its Cinnamon Rolls, Walnut cakes, and Croquets.

Britto’s: A well-known restaurant, that is famous for its ambience and great food. People come here for the Pork and Chicken Sandwiches.

Little World: Located on the Main road at Palolem, this is another great restaurant offering very affordable food in their  menu. The place is known for its pancakes, masala chai and lassies.

Claudina’s Shack: They organize Beach party Buffets, every Thursday, with music, and fireworks.

Chef Soumyen’s Kithchen: An Open air restaurant with very hospitable waiters, and extraordinary food. 


Everything from clothing to jewellery to brassware and feni can be acquired from the markets of goa.

The Mapusa market: This market trades everything from Goan pottery, handicrafts, to spices and homemade pickles. A must visit, if you plan on doing some serious shopping.

Anjuna Flea Market: Held every Wednesday, the hustle and bustle of this market makes it the liveliest in Goa.

Mackie’s Night Bazar: Held on the banks of the River Baga, during the months of November to April, with stalls lined up selling gift items and souvenirs

Fort Aguada: A Portuguese fort built in 1613, to fend off attacks by the Marathis and the Dutch, the fort has been a beacon for ships in the Arabian Sea.  It is located in the Candolim beach at the mouth of the Mandovi River.

Basilica De Bom Jesus: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this church is great example of Baroque architecture. It is constructed in the year 1605. Christian Missionary St Francis Xavier was interred here.

 Dudhsagar Falls: Located 60 kms away from the city of Panjim, and cascading down from a height of 310 metres, The Dudhsagar falls are indeed a sight to behold.

Palolem Beach: A peaceful beach, giving serene and romantic vibes.
